MetroNews to provide coverage of Mountain East Conference tournament

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The quarterfinal rounds of the Division II Mountain East Conference Tournament will move into the Charleston Civic Center on Thursday and Friday and, for the first time, MetroNews will provide play-by-play coverage of all the tournament games played in Charleston.

Radio play-by-play coverage of all Mountain East Conference Tournament games can be streamed live starting Thursday here at wvmetronews.com.

Both championships will be live-streamed on the website Sunday beginning with the women’s game at 1 p.m. and the men’s title game to follow.

No. 7 West Liberty (25-2) will lead the men’s field. The Hilltoppers are gunning for their seventh NCAA tournament bid in 11 seasons under coach Jim Crutchfield.

West Liberty will play its first game Friday at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The other seeded teams on the men’s side include Fairmont State, University of Charleston and Concord.

As many as four of those teams could secure an NCAA bid with a strong showing in Charleston this week.

West Liberty (20-8) is also the top in the women’s bracket. Women’s quarterfinal round games will be played Thursday, with West Liberty, Charleston, Shepherd and Wheeling Jesuit having earned byes into that round.

The men’s semifinals begin at 6 p.m. Friday. The women’s semifinal doubleheader begins at noon Saturday.
