HARTFORD, CONN., — West Virginia Regional Jail Authority Director Joe DeLong has landed a new position after announcing his resignation last month.
DeLong has been hired as the new executive director of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. The organization represents municipalities in the state of Connecticut before that state’s legislature, called the Connecticut General Assembly.
Those with CCM said it hired DeLong after a search for “a visionary leader with a hands-on entrepreneurial approach to creating meaningful service programs for municipalities.”
DeLong announced his plans Feb. 2 to leave as the chief of the regional jail system. He announced at that time he would spend his last two months on the job advocating for regional jail workers.
“My primary focus at this time is not about what happens on April 1. My primary focus at this time is doing the job I was paid to do up through March 31 and delivering on the promise I made to my employees during that time,” DeLong said at the time.
DeLong, a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, was regional jail authority director for three years.
“The Board of Directors is pleased and excited to make this appointment,” said Matthew Galligan, Town Manager of South Windsor and President of CCM said in a prepared statement. “The board was unanimous in its view that Joseph (Joe) DeLong is the best choice to ensure maintaining and enhancing CCM’s leadership and service roles with Connecticut municipalities.”
