Marion County families without water indefinitely

MCCURDYSVILLE, W.Va. — A small Marion County community, underwater, is without water.

According to Kala Moore, the Vice President of the Ministers Run Water Association, the outage is considered indefinite thanks to rising waters and the pending snow storm that could dump anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow across parts of north central WV.

“We actually have a leak that is in a line that is in a creek. And, that creek is overflowing. We can’t actually get to those water lines,” explained Moore.

Volunteers agreed to keep Baxter Fire Department open through Wednesday night as a distribution center for water.

“We have over 170 families without water right now. As far as we can tell, it’s probably going to be a week or so before we even get water to get to that line,” said Moore.

The outage includes customers in the McCurdysville community.

“I have neighbors that are elderly and don’t like driving in these conditions,” said Moore. “It would be nice if some of the neighbors around here could get them water and take it to them.”

Bottled water donations can be taken to the Baxter Volunteer Fire Department.

Residents with questions can call the water association office at 304-278-2500. That office is open weekdays from 10am to 2pm.
