CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — A Randolph County man who was allegedly plotting to blow up a federal court house and music festival in Elkins has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Jonathon Leo Schrader, also known as “Hobo John,” 30, of Elkins faces one count of Possession of Stolen Explosives after he was discovered in possession of stolen C-4 plastic explosives when a search warrant was executed at his residence and the surrounding area in February.
He allegedly planned to detonate explosives at various locations in Elkins, including at the Jennings Randolph Federal Building and during the Mountain State Forest Festival.
Schrader faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.00.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation with assistance from the West Virginia State Police, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, Federal Protective Services, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Secret Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Camilletti is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
