BECKLEY, W.Va. — Tamarack and the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame have teamed up to showcase a musical tribute ceremony Saturday to the late Grand Old Opry legend Little Jimmy Dickens who was raised in Bolt.
The show will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th at the Tamarack in Beckley with performances by The Carpenter Ants, John Lilly, Robert Schafer, Russ Hicks, Billy Boggs, John Thorten, Billy Payne, and more that will be singing some of Dickens’ popular songs.
Dickens died of cardiac arrest on January 2, 2015, at the age of 94. He performed in the Opry since 1948, became an Opry member that year, and was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1983. Dickens was inducted into the West Virginia Hall of Fame in 2007.
His hits include “Take An Old Cold Tater (And Wait),” ”Country Boy,” ”Out Behind The Barn,” and “May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose.”
Tamarack’s Kelly Elkins said they are very excited to honor Dickens.
“Little Jimmy Dickens was native to West Virginia. He was born not too far from Tamarack and this is what we are about — showcasing West Virginia talent,” said Elkins.
Elkins said they are gearing up for a packed house event in their 200-seat theater. Tickets sold out not too long after they went on sale.
