Power outage numbers on the decline

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power Company remained hopeful Saturday night that it would have most all of its southern West Virginia customers back to full service by Sunday night following Thursday’s snowstorm.

As of 7 p.m. Saturday, Appalachian Power reported 80 percent of the customers who lost service beginning Thursday had been restored to just more than 8,000 customers. The high was 43,000 customers.

Cabell County still had the most customers out heading into Sunday at 2,800 followed by Putnam (1,500), Mason (1,400) and Jackson (1,100).

Mon Power listed nearly 17,000 customers still without service heading into Sunday including 3,100 in Wood County and 2,100 in Wetzel County.

Both companies have hundreds of workers from outside of West Virginia in the state helping with restoration efforts.
