Many desserts made to mark National Girl Scout Day in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — National Girl Scout Day was marked in West Virginia’s Capital City with what has become a tradition — the Girl Scout Cookie Tasteoff.

Teams made up of Daisies, Brownies and Girl Scouts along with Charleston Marriott chefs used Girl Scout cookies to make special desserts for the day.

Brownie Bella Simmons, 9, a student at Cross Lanes Elementary School, chose the team that was making Savannah Smiles Lemon Blueberry Parfaits during Thursday’s Tasteoff.

“My favorite cookie, I would have to say, is the Savannah Smiles,” Simmons told MetroNews. “We don’t have any tangy ones or any sour ones. That’s why it’s my favorite, because it’s really unique.

Her teammate, Girl Scout Danielle Thor, 10, also a student at Cross Lanes Elementary School, thinks another cookie is the best. “My favorite cookie is the Trefoils, but I want to try the new Rah Rah Raisin.”

Samoas are the most popular Girl Scout cookies in West Virginia followed by Thin Mints which are the favorites nationwide.

Daisy Aubriana Martone, 5, of Teays Valley, said she sells more Thin Mints than anything, but she personally likes the Rah Rah Raisin cookies the best. “They’re good,” she said.

Beth Casey, CEO of Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, said there is still time to get your favorites.

“They can our website. There’s a cookie app where you can put in your zip code and find cookie booths that are near you,” she said. “We’re in cookie booth season, so a lot of girls are at local stores holding cookie booths on weekends.”

The website for Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council is here.

Recipes for the desserts made during the Girl Scout Cookie Tasteoff are also available at the Council’s website and those desserts are being served at lunch at the Charleston Marriott, the host site for the event, for a limited time.

The Girl Scouts marked the 103rd anniversary of the organization’s creation on Thursday.

In all, Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council serves 61 counties in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia and Maryland.
