Dozens of Special Metals workers without jobs

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. —  Dozens of workers at Special Metals in Huntington were laid off from their jobs Sunday night.

According to sources, union officials were told 73 hourly workers have been impacted. All of the workers were on the overnight shift from 11 p.m.-7 a.m.

“The dozens of jobs lost leaves several families in despair. This announcement has taken us all by surprise. We have to double our efforts to restore these jobs, and this community will do all it can to help our neighbors who are affected by the announcement,” said Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, in a public statement concerning the layoffs.

A spokesperson for Precision Castparts, which own Special Metals, said the company is making staffing adjustments to keep the company competitive in its markets.

The number of layoffs have not been confirmed.
