Carey would like to get a shot at Charleston Civic Center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU Women’s Basketball Coach Mike Carey would love to have an opportunity to play a game at the Charleston Civic Center before the season is over.

Such a game would mean Carey’s team would have reached the WNIT finals and tournament officials would have chosen Charleston as a venue for the title tilt.

“It would be great for our fans, for West Virginia University and for our team,” Carey said Tuesday on MetroNews Talkline.

The Mountaineers (22-14) have already advanced to the semifinals of the tournament and will take on Temple (20-16) Wednesday night at the Coliseum in Morgantown but the Coliseum would not be available for Saturday’s WNIT championship. There’s an NCAA Gymnastics regional event scheduled. Carey said WVU has turned to the next best thing by putting a bid in to the tournament to host the game in Charleston.

“Which would be great,” Carey said.

Tip-off would be at around 3 p.m. Saturday.

But first for West Virginia it’s a Temple team that has been playing well in the postseason.

“They get up and down the floor. They can penetrate and they can shoot it. It’s going to be an exciting game because it’s going to be an up-and-down game,” Carey predicted.
