Five people arrested in Jackson County drug bust

RIPLEY, W.Va. — Five New Jersey residents were charged in a drug bust in Jackson County early Tuesday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs said the Jackson County Bureau of Investigation obtained a search warrant at around 6 a.m. for two rooms at the Super 8 Motel in Ripley.

Boggs said they found 10,000 packages of heroin, ecstasy, various pills, marijuana, narcotics, and nearly $6,000 cash inside the motel rooms.

Boggs said Antoine Ahiem, 28, Latanya Ross, 35, Francisco Midgette, 23, Kareem Tucker, 24, and Dale Smith, 27, were all arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance and conspiracy.

“Obviously prices are higher here than it is where ever they’re from,” said Boggs, “Typically if they’re from a larger city, the profit margin is better.”

The bust was a joint effort between Ripley and Ravenswood Police. Overall, Boggs said he just wants to keep the county and the state of West Virginia safe.

“They’re here inundating good old Jackson County or rural West Virginia with the same stuff the large cities have, so we’ve been trying to stay on top of that. We don’t want that to happen here,” said Boggs.

The investigation continues.
