PEYTONA, W.Va. — It may be until Tuesday before nearly 5,000 West Virginia American Water Company customers in Boone County have regular water pressure following a break in a 16-inch pressurized water line.
WVAWC spokesperson Laura Jordan said the line near Peytona was repaired early Monday morning but re-pressurizing would take several hours. Jordan said they hoped to have the Madison area back to regular service by Monday afternoon but it would take longer in other areas, especially customers in higher elevations. Jordan said pressure stations and tanks had to be restored.
“The system seems to be re-pressurizing exactly as we anticipated and unlike the cold weather-related impacts that we had last month and the month before–we do not have that excessive customer demand,” she said.
The Boone County Courthouse was closed Monday because there was no water.
Jordan said the leak was discovered Sunday. It was a four-inch hole in the bottom of the line.
“We actually waited a few hours to do the shutdown so we could give customers a little bit of advanced notice as well as not shut it down during the dinnertime hours while our customers were celebrating their Easter dinners,” Jordan said.
West Virginia American Water set up water tanks Monday at three locations.
· Lick Creek Community Center
· Spruce River Fire Department
· Camp Creek – Wide spot along Lorey Road across from Stephen’s Auto Center
· Ridgeview – Wide spot along Brushton Road off of Ridgeview Road
The 16-inch line carries water to 75 percent of West Virginia American’s customers in Boone County. It was installed in 1999.
