CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Longtime state legislator Larry Williams announced Friday he plans to leave the House of Delegates for a position with the state Department of Agriculture.
The 71-year-old Williams (D-Preston), a farmer and small business owner, plans to leave office April 15.
He served on the Preston County Board of Education before being appointed to the state House in 1993. He was first elected in 1994 and then re-elected every two years through the 2014 election.
Williams’ legislative career included serving as vice-chair of the House Education Committee. He was also a longtime member of the House Finance Committee.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will choose Williams’ replacement from candidates nominated by the Preston County Democratic executive committee.
