Storms should be gone by Friday evening

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The last of the heavy rain should pull out of West Virginia by Friday afternoon giving way to a nice weekend, but it’s left plenty of misery in its path.

“Several locations across the north have had flash flooding and river flooding,” said Faith Borden, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston. “There’s still some flooding going on and we expect it to recede through the day.”

Borden said several locations along the Ohio River, particularly Pleasants and part of Wood County along with Ritchie County received five inches of rain in two days which pushed creeks out of their banks and left low lying areas covered in water.

“We have a flood watch out until this afternoon,” she said . “This last band of rain this afternoon should be the last push for this system.”

Weather forecasters say a high pressure system will move in Friday night and end the rainfall. The weekend promises to bring milder conditions and cooler temperatures.
