More spring flooding in West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for urban areas and small streams Tuesday morning after 1-2 inches of rain fell from an area south of Clarksburg to Boone County.

The warning, which is in effect until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, includes parts of Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mason, Nicholas, Putnam and Roane counties.

Meteorologists said another inch of rain was possible by mid-morning Tuesday.

Lincoln County closed its schools Tuesday because of high water. A few other school districts canceled classes for individual schools.

Forecasters said the rain was expected to taper off by mid to late afternoon.

A flood warning means flooding is happening or is imminent.
