After a day’s work, Blue Creek Road partially cleared

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — One lane of Blue Creek Road re-opened Wednesday after state highway crews worked for more than 24 hours to chip away a a 45-ton boulder that tumbled onto the road.

The massive boulder slid down a rain-soaked mountainside and onto the Kanawha County road Tuesday afternoon.

Work was scheduled to continue overnight Wednesday night to completely remove the boulder and to begin repair of the road. There was no word from Division of Highway officials as to when the road would be completely re-opened.
