CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State residents have dozens of opportunities this week to get smarter when it comes to money. The West Virginia AARP and nearly three dozen partners are sponsoring the sixth annual Money Smart Week.
AARP State Director Gaylene Miller accepted a proclamation highlighting the week a news conference Tuesday morning in Charleston. She said the work of the last six years has yielded results.
“Consumers are getting a better understanding of the importance of financial planning and security,” Miller said. “I think they are starting to play a more active role in protecting themselves. As we all know, the best consumer is a well-informed consumer.”
The focus of MSW is planning and protection.
“Money Smart Week is all about providing consumers with the tools and resources they need to protect themselves. It really is up to consumers to engage and take advantage of these opportunities,” Miller said.
Money Smart Week activities take place in several states. It’s a public awareness campaign of the Federal Reserve Bank.
