MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Monongalia County landlord who pleaded guilty to sex abuse charges could face additional penalties from the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office.
On April 22, Gary Waldon, 64, admitted to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, conspiracy and burglary. Those charges carry a prison sentence of up to 35 years.
The guilty pleas also serve as proof for the attorney general to pursue action against Waldon who reportedly violated the terms of a decree made with the West Virginia Human Rights Commission. From 2008 to date, Waldon, who’d been ordered to not participate in management of his rental properties, continued to work as a landlord, according to a release from Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.
“The Office of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division has asked the court for a hearing date to vigorously pursue this enforcement action,” Morrisey said.
Waldon faces a $5,000 fine for each violation under the decree with the commission.
