CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. — The state Division of Highways reopened one lane of U.S. Route 60 in eastern Kanawha County Friday afternoon after nearly two weeks of the busy highway being closed for an unstable hillside.

Contractors were able to cut a bench in the hillside to help stabilize the area to allow for the partial opening. A concrete barrier was put into place Friday morning creating a buffer zone if any other debris falls off the hillside.

The DOH closed the road near Cedar Grove April 20. Motorists used state Route 61 as a detour between Chelyan and Montgomery.

Temporary traffic signals will alternate the traffic through the one-lane area until further notice.
