4th-rounder Glowinski heads to Seattle pledging to ‘compete my ass off’

West Virginia guard Mark Glowinski was selected in the fourth round by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, with the No. 134 pick overall.

West Virginia offensive lineman Mark Glowinski said he spent Thursday night “chilling” during the first round of the NFL draft and didn’t pay too much attention to Friday’s second and third rounds either.

By Saturday he was more focused, with family surrounding him at home in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Glowinski became a fourth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, the No. 134th player selected overall.

“It’s overwhelming with all the calls and stuff,” he said. “I’m jut trying to enjoy it and getting ready to fly to Seattle.”

Glowinski was the 25th offensive lineman taken in the draft, the 13th guard and the second Big 12 lineman selected behind Oklahoma’s Daryl Williams (fourth round, No. 102, by Carolina).

During pre-draft workouts the Seahawks—having shipped Max Unger to the Saints in the Jimmy Graham trade—discussed moving Glowinski to center, a position he has never played outside of occasional practice snaps at WVU. Glowinski might be staying at his familiar guard spot now that Seattle resigned four-year veteran Lemuel Jeanpierre to compete with last year’s backup center Patrick Lewis and 24-year-old free-agent signee Jared Wheeler.

“I’m just going to give it my all and compete my ass off,” Glowinski said.

After growing up in Pennsylvania, spending two junior college seasons at Lackawanna and three years at West Virginia, what does Glowinski think of heading to the Great Northwest?

“I hear it’s beautiful state with a lot of outdoors stuff to do,” he said. “I know people say it rains a lot, but I’m excited to get out there.”
