HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University’s Board of Governors has decided to take a step back in its search for a new president.
A search committee that includes all 16 members of the BOG and other campus representatives interviewed six candidates at an off-campus site over the weekend but could not come up with three finalists.
“Each candidate brought desirable attributes to the table and we were pleased with the overall quality. In the final analysis, we decided to keep the search going,” said board chairman Michael Sellards.
Marshall’s former president Stephen Kopp died of a heart attack in December, and Sellards said the university is in an unusual situation seeking successor.
The search committee plans to return to the original pool of candidates to see if someone there could advance in the process. A new timeline will also be developed.
Interim president Gary G. White has agreed to continue his role until a permanent successor is hired.
