John Strawser, Jr., 37, of Terra Alta, had a preliminary hearing on a first-degree murder charge Friday morning in magistrate’s court in Kingwood.

Strawser is accused of killing Amy Lou Buckingham, 38, in the driveway of her North Street home in Tunnelton. State police have said a relationship between the suspect and victim was ending and Strawser gunned the woman down in her driveway April 16.

Strawser was on the run from police for several hours the night of the shooting. When police were executing a search warrant at his home, Strawser showed up and was arrested without incident.

A Preston County magistrate found enough evidence during Friday’s hearing to forward the case to the grand jury. Strawser remains in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail without bail.
