Motorcyclist dies in Fayette County crash

BELVA, W.Va. — A Nicholas County man died when a log truck rolled over onto his motorcycle Monday morning, Fayette County sheriff’s deputies said.

The crash happened along state Route 39 near Belva just before 9 a.m.

The victim, identified as Phillip Jenkins, 62, of Richwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The log truck driver, 38-year-old Gregory Harper of Summersville, was not injured in the accident.

Investigators said Jenkins attempted to turn left into the parking lot of Brown’s Service Center, a local gas station. Harper allegedly swerved to the right to avoid Jenkins, lost control of the truck, and overturned.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined and that drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the case.

No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon.
