Two killed in separate I-79 crashes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two people were killed in fatal crashes on Interstate 79 Saturday and Sunday.

Darius Rogers, 49, of Keyser, W.Va. was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning when his tractor trailer crashed just south of Waynesburg, Pa. Authorities say Rogers was driving a dual-trailer rig when it slammed into the southbound guardrail and plummeted over an embankment. The rig traveled about 150 down the hill. The southbound lanes were shutdown for about seven hours while crews worked the scene. An investigation into the crash continues.

Sunday, a man was killed in a head-on collision near Star City in Monongalia County. Sheriff’s officials say a vehicle was headed south when the woman driving the sedan crossed the median and struck a northbound car. The man who was driving north was pronounced dead at the scene. A third vehicle was involved in the crash but was able to be driven from the scene.

The name of the man killed in the accident has not yet been released.
