Tomblin talking workforce training in Japan

NAGOYA, Japan — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s trade mission to Japan continues this week. Tomblin said the most frequently asked question by potential Japanese investors is about the state’s workforce.

“Most of the potential clients are pretty excited when you tell them what we’re doing with the individualized workforce training programs, the different programs we have going on around the state of West Virginia,” Tomblin said.

The governor said he’s told the potential investors the state can specialize the training to meet their particular workforce demands.

Toyota Honorary Chairman Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda talked last week about the workers his company found when it opened its transmission plant in Putnam County several years ago. He called them “hard working” and “highly skilled.”

Gov. Tomblin said meetings will continue this week in Japan.

“We’ve been having a very busy time meeting with a lot of current investors in West Virginia as well as meeting new ones,” he said.

The trade mission, which has included celebrating the state’s 25th anniversary with a trade office in Nagoya, is scheduled to last through Thursday.
