Jefferson County chooses new superintendent of schools

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — The Jefferson County BOE chose a new superintendent Tuesday night after an extensive nationwide search.

Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson will begin her position as the new superintendent of Jefferson County Schools on July 1. The Henrico County, Va. native was chosen after the candidates pool was narrowed down to three. Gibson was looking forward to starting the new job.

“I’m looking forward to professionally being in a school division and a community that very much values education,” she said.

BOE President Scott Suddath thought that what made Gibson stand out was her passion for student success and personal academic achievements. In Henrico County, she was the deputy superintendent, so she has similar experience.

Gibson will move to the area before school begins in the fall. She has a son that will enter the school system as a 3rd grader.
