Robert C. Byrd football coach Bruce Carey steps down

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Robert C. Byrd football coach Bruce Carey has submitted his resignation, ending a three-year tenure with the school.

Carey, who cited a lack of fire to return for next year, helped lead the Flying Eagles to back-to-back Class AA semifinal appearances in 2012 and 2013, along with a quarterfinal appearance this past season.

He previously served as the longtime head coach at Bridgeport where he posted a 125-31 record, before stepping down after the 2009 season due to health issues.

Robert C. Byrd now has a coaching vacancy to fill as the summer practice period begins for teams around the state in about a month.
