Overnight fire in Elkins leaves 1 dead

ELKINS, W.Va. — An overnight fire in Randolph County that claimed one life was under investigation by the state fire marshal.

The Elkins and Beverly fire departments responded early Monday morning to the scene on Diamond Street.

The victim was not immediately identified. Several individuals were in the home at the time, but they escaped unharmed and were assisted by the Red Cross in finding temporary shelter.

The fire marshal’s office was on the scene to investigate, along with the state medical examiner’s team.
