New judicial annex much welcomed in Keyser

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Judicial Annex is now open thanks to a partnership between state, county and local officials.

The former Barr Legal building was renovated to house the Mineral County Magistrate Court and Family Law Court. It was the focus of a ceremony in Keyser late last week.

Family Court Judge Glen Stotler said the new facility offers a separate area for family court and will help to provide some security for both courts with separate waiting rooms for opposing parties.

Judge Stotler said the project has been the culmination for dedicated efforts through the state Supreme Court to the Mineral County Commission.

Deanna Rock with the Mineral County Bar Association said the facility offers an opportunity for court hearings to be held any day of the week. Previously three judges had to share one court room.

West Virginia Supreme Court Administrator Steve Canterbury said he wanted to make sure the local officials know how much the Supreme Court appreciates them taking the time to get this facility right. He said they believe if you have a space that has dignity and an aura of respect they will feel more respected and have more respect for the rule of law.
