Patriots coming to Greenbrier for NFL practices

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The New England Patriots will join for the New Orleans Saints for three days of preseason practice at The Greenbrier resort in August.

“What an incredible treat for West Virginia,” Greenbrier owner Jim Justice told the Beckley Register-Herald Thursday. “It’s really special to try to make great things happen for the people of West Virginia, and what could be better than bringing the Super Bowl champs? It’s just incredible.”

Justice said it was Saints coach Sean Payton’s idea. The Patriots are scheduled to arrive at The Greenbrier on Aug. 18. The practices will take place prior to the two teams playing a preseason game in New Orleans Aug. 22. Both teams will travel from Louisiana from White Sulphur Springs.

The Saints began preseason drills at the new facility last summer. This season’s camp begins July 29.

Justice built the 55,000-square-foot training facility, along with three practice fields, in just 130 days last year after announcing the Saints had agreed to hold part of their camp at the resort through 2016.

The project cost about $30 million.

Pro Football Talk reported Thursday the Arizona Cardinals are considering practicing at The Greenbrier during the season between East Coast road games.
