WILLIAMSTOWN, W.Va. — Wahama defeated Williamstown 11-0 this past week, capturing the Class A Region 4 high school baseball title.
With the win, the White Falcons (23-7) will be making their sixth all-time appearance in the state tournament and first since 1998.
“We’ve been looking forward to this,” said veteran Wahama coach Tom Cullen. “We’ve been close to getting back (to the state tournament) severalĀ other times, recently. I thought if we could get on a roll hitting, we could be pretty good this year. We were winning games 2-1 or losing games 1-0 early in the season. But our hitting has finally come around – when we do that, we’re pretty good.”
Wahama will face Bishop Donahue (21-5) in Friday’s Class A semifinals at 5:00 p.m. from Appalachian Power Park in Charleston. The Bishops, themselves, are into the state tournament for the first time since 1992.
