Toddler found dead inside South Charleston home

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A 2-year-old was found dead inside a Kanawha County home Saturday night, and police were investigating claims the child drowned the previous night.

South Charleston police were called to a home in the 700 block of Chesapeake Street at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The mother allegedly had dropped her child off at the home on Friday night, but the babysitter did not alert authorities about the incident until the following night, police said.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. Police were working with the Kanawha County prosecutor’s office in the investigation.

New information released Sunday said the child was found lying on the floor of the residence among feces and trash.
