Hurricane High School anglers claim state championship

SUTTON, W.Va. — The Hurricane High School team of Drew Sallada and Bailey Gordon captured the West Virginia State Bass Fishing Championship on Sutton Lake back on Saturday.   Sallada and Gordon won the title by nearly two pounds with five bass weighing 9.12 pounds.

The second place team, Will Sigmon and Zack Moore from Herbert Hoover High School came in one fish short of their limit, which proved costly.  Despite having only four fish, Sigmon and Moore had 7.6 pounds of bass.

The rest of the top five looked this way: 3rd place, Alex Goff and Zach Horrocks of Herbert Hoover/Clay County High School with five bass weighting 6.3 pounds, 4th place, Noah Caldwell and Landon Harrington of Berkeley Springs High School with four bass at 5.12 pounds, and 5th John Burkley and Tyler White of Wheeling Park High School with five bass at 5.12 pounds.

Gordon and Bailey, as the West Virginia State Champions will represent the Mountain State at the Central Conference Regional Championship at Lake Carlyle Illinois in September with a chance to advance on to the High School National Championship next spring.

The event is backed by the West Virginia Bass Federation, an affiliate of FLW/TBF Tournament Series.
