Operator charged in Cheat Lake boating accident

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The state Division of Natural Resources has charged a Morgantown man with a variety of offenses in connection with a boating accident on Cheat Lake last month that injured 12 people, several of them seriously.

The DNR says Brandon Solomon, 20, surrendered to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday.  Solomon faces 13 misdemeanor charges, eleven of those charges are boating under the influence of alcohol and/or controlled substances causing injury.

Officials say Solomon was the operator of a Malibu Wakesetter boat with 11 passengers on board that crashed into the shore of Cheat Lake shortly before 9 p.m., injuring all on board.  Solomon was freed on $32,000 bond.
