Yeager Airport hopes to break ground on new hillside in July

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Yeager Airport officials met with Schnabel Engineering Company representatives Thursday to get an update on the repair of the failed hillside.

Engineers said they are on schedule to make preliminary plans next week. Yeager Airport plans to bid out the construction stage of the project out by mid-June, hoping to break ground mid-July.

Yeager Airport Executive Director Rick Atkinson said the top priority is completing the project quickly and safely.

“We remain committed to completing this project as quickly as possible,” he said in a release. “Our prime concern remains the safety of residents in the impacted areas and the construction and engineering personnel who will be working on the project.”
