6-foot-8, 320-pound Pt. Pleasant junior Stewart commits to Marshall

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Rising junior offensive lineman Seth Stewart made his college commitment on Wednesday, choosing to stay in-state with Marshall.

Stewart’s 6-foot-8, 320-pound frame has drawn recruiters from several programs, but the proximity of Huntington to Point Pleasant seemed like a perfect fit.

“He really liked it there,” said Point Pleasant coach David Darst. “It’s a place that he enjoys and he’s been there multiple times. It’s close to home and they did a good job of getting in early on him.”

Stewart made the decision to commit after attending a camp in Huntington on Wednesday.

“He’s just a tremendous run-blocker,” Darst said. “His flexibility is probably one of the things that stands out the most – he bends so well for his size. If you look for him on the field in his stance, he gets as low as a 6-foot-2 kid does. That’s what the Marshall coaches noticed in him as well, how well he moves for his size.

“Run-blocking is his strength, he just gets his hands on you and does a great job,” Darst said. “He’s made a big improvement in his pass protection and that’s something that young kids have to work on all of the time. The sky is the limit for him, really.”

Point Pleasant likely will have another D-I commitment decision within the coming months as rising senior running back Cody Mitchell also holds an offer from Marshall. Mitchell was recently named the MVP of a West Virginia camp but doesn’t have an offer from the Mountaineers.

Mitchell has also made recruiting stops with Louisville and Wake Forest.

“He’s just sitting back and trying to evaluate things,” Darst said. “He’s done really well, including the Nike combine in Columbus where he finished fourth overall out of over 400 kids.”
