Man, woman killed in Fayette County crash

GLEN JEAN, W.Va. — A man and a woman were killed in a Thursday morning crash on state Route 16 in Fayette County.

Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said Eric and Joyce Richardson of the Mossy/Scarbro area were traveling south in a vehicle between Glen Jean and Mount Hope when an approaching vehicle came across the center line and struck them. The Richardson’s vehicle spun sideways and slammed into a second oncoming vehicle before overturning.

Kessler said Joyce Richardson died at the scene. Eric died a short time later at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Deputies said the initial approaching vehicle driven by a Meadow Bridge woman caused the accident. She had not been charged as of Thursday afternoon.

“We have not yet positively determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in causing this collision,” Sheriff Kessler said in a news release, “but we are currently investigating this possibility.”

The wreck occurred at approximately 9:14 a.m.
