MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. — Murray Energy Corporation announced Thursday several hundred Monongalia County miners will go back to work.
The release indicated 262 hourly employees will be recalled to the Monongalia County Coal Company. Murray executives idled mine operations March 31, 2015 blaming increased use of natural gas, federal industry regulations and state coal severance taxes for leading to a stockpile of coal with no market for sales.
Murray recalled some miners on June 8.
The company reports approximately 400 hourly and salary employees on the job continuing operations on a reduced schedule.
“We are pleased to be able to get these employees and families back to work,” stated Robert Murray, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Murray Energy. “Unfortunately, the
ongoing destruction of the United States coal industry continues to be a severe economic hardship on our employees, their families, and our communities.”
