Parts of West Virginia experience flooding; more heavy rains could come

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The backlash of Tropical Storm Bill caused some flooding in certain areas of the state Saturday night and more rain Sunday could mean risk for further damage.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Dylan Cooper described where the most risk for flooding could be.

“We’re looking at the northern and the eastern part of the state where we have the highest risk for potential flooding with any rainfall we get today.”

He said that Nicholas and Randolph counties received about 2.5 inches of rain yesterday alone.

“We had numerous reports of water over roads in both (Nicholas and Webster) counties last night,” Cooper said.

Kanawha County avoided any serious flooding so far according to the Office of Emergency services, but Cooper said the Charleston area isn’t out of the woods yet.

“We are under another slight risk for severe storms today,” said Cooper. “It’s a tricky a forecast but once we get into the early and middle part of the afternoon we should start to see some activity develop. Showers and storms again today could be strong and possibly severe.”
