5 to be sentenced in Kanawha County Foodland robbery and shooting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Five people from Kanawha County are expected to be sentenced, separately, in Kanawha County Circuit Court Thursday morning for robbing and shooting a clerk at a Kanawha City Foodland in August 2014.

John Proctor III, 19, and Levi Lanham, 18, both pleaded guilty in April to first degree robbery with the use of a firearm. Proctor admitted to shooting Foodland clerk Shawna Sampson in the chest Aug. 14 after the pair entered the grocery store and demanded money.

Telisa McCauley, 23, and Alisyn Proctor, 20, also pleaded guilty to their roles in the robbery, admitting they were in the getaway car. McCauley pleaded guilty to first degree robbery with a firearm and Proctor to a charge of assault during the commission of a felony. The pair got away for several days after the crime. They were eventually arrested in Florida.

Ricky Patterson, 19, admitted to conspiracy to commit the robbery. He said he was paid $30 to walk into the store to make sure the others were in the clear of police officers before the robbery occurred. A juvenile was arrested on a similar charge.

The robbery convictions carry sentences of 10-100 years in prison. Alisyn Proctor faces 2-10 years behind bars and Patterson faces 1-5 years.

All five people will be sentenced by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
