McDowell mother faces child abuse charges after video released on Facebook

WELCH, W.Va. — A mother was charged with child abuse Thursday and will face trial at the end of the month after an incident of child abuse was recorded with a cell phone and posted on Facebook.

The video led to the arrest of Adrianne Allen, charging her with child abuse that could have resulted in injury. The video shows Allen spanking a child five times, and drawing her fist in a threatening way as if she would punch him, police say.

She allegedly never punched the child, but she did hit him with an open hand across the right ear, eye and cheek.

Child Protective Services kept the four-year-boy while Allen was held in jail yesterday. She eventually made her $5,000 bail and was released.

Allen’s children are now back in her custody.
