Teenager found; Amber Alert cancelled

UPDATE 8:00 a.m. Tuesday:    Wilson and Shook were located in Smyth County, Va., Tuesday and the Amber Alert was cancelled. Authorities had a morning news conference scheduled to release more information.

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children issued a video alert in hopes of finding information regarding a missing teen last seen in Virginia with a known sex offender.

Hayleigh Wilson, 14, of Surgoinsville, Tenn., was last located with Benjamin Shook, 41, in Sugar Grove, Va., on June 24 according to witness reports.

She is described at a white female standing 5-foot-5, 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes and wears glasses.

Shook is a white male, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds. He has brown hair, blue eyes, wears glasses and has a scar on his left leg and multiple tattoos on his arms, legs and chest.

In the description of the video alert, officials with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children write that the two may likely be in the in the Appalachian Mountains area of Smyth County, Va., but urged the public nationwide to be on the lookout.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

The U.S. Marshals Service has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information on their whereabouts at 1-800-336-0102, as Shook is also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.
