Herd’s Selby on Rimington Watch List

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Michael Selby has some big shoes to fill on Marshall’s offensive line. He’s slated to move to center this season, replacing All-Conference anchor Chris Jasperse. Selby was named to the Rimington Trophy Award Watch List Wednesday, honoring the best center in the country.

Selby is projected to make his first collegiate start at center on Sept. 6 against Purdue, moving to rom right guard where he started all 14 games in 2014. Selby has been a mainstay on the Herd offensive front for his two seasons at guard with the Herd. A 6-foot-2, 276-pounder from Sandersville, Ga., Selby has played in 27 games for one of the nation’s top offenses.

With Selby in the starting lineup up front, the Herd averaged 559.2 yards total offense last season – ranking second nationally to Baylor (581.5). Marshall ranked No. 8 in rushing offense and No. 18 in passing, and was the only offense to rank in the top 20 in both categories besides College Football Playoff finalist Oregon.

Selby was voted to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2013. He is one of seven C-USA centers on the 2015 Rimington Watch List.

Auburn’s Reese Dismukes won the 2014 Rimington Trophy.

The Rimington finalists for 2015 will be announced on Dec. 7. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Tococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 16, 2016
