Beckley woman injured in crash after fleeing toll booth

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Beckley woman was involved in a serious crash Thursday afternoon after she allegedly drove off recklessly from the North Beckley Toll Booth on the West Virginia Turnpike.

Debra Dillon, 45, was noticed picking up money off the ground at the toll booth when a sergeant approached her, police say. By the time he reached the vehicle, Dillon sped off onto Route 19 North.

The sergeant eventually approached the vehicle and tried talking to Dillon, who was suspected to have been impaired. She allegedly refused to roll down the window or turn the ignition off, and drove off.

Dillon struck a truck at the North Beckley exit carrying one adult and four juveniles, as well as another vehicle with one adult. It was determined that Dillon caused the crash.

Dillon was unresponsive at the scene, having suffered serious injuries. All others involved had non-life threatening injuries.

All those involved in the crash were transported to Raleigh General Hospital for treatment.
