KIMBALL, W.Va. — A McDowell County couple is free on bond after being charged in the death of their infant son.

State police filed charges of child neglect resulting in death this week against Robert Green, Sr., 38, and Sherry Lynn Green, 22, both of Kimball. Their son, Robert Green, Jr., was 47-days-old when he died May 19.

The couple admitted, according to a criminal complaint, in separate interviews with state troopers, that they had taken the prescription drug Neurontin before going to bed that night. They had no prescription for the drug. Sherry Green said her son woke up crying and she put him into bed beside her. She said she woke up on top of him. Investigators said the boy’s father did CPR but his son with pronounced dead at the hospital in Welch.

Both defendants have been released on personal recognizance bond and are awaiting preliminary hearings in McDowell County Magistrate Court.
