Woman dead in accident involving police cruiser

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A woman was killed in an early Friday morning accident on I-64 in Cabell County after ramming her vehicle into the rear of a Huntington Police Department cruiser.

The woman lost control about 3:30 a.m. eastbound between the 29th Street and Hal Greer Boulevard exits near an ongoing repaving project. The cruiser, which had two police officers inside, was in the area doing speed enforcement in the construction area.

The officers saw the driver approaching from behind and try to move the cruiser before impact. The collision pushed the cruiser between 75 and 100 feet. The officers were taken to the hospital but weren’t seriously injured.

The eastbound lanes reopened at about 9 a.m.

There was a report of a possible DUI driver on the interstate minutes before the accident, police said.
