Transfer Bosch could provide immediate boost to O-line

Today’s video brings the fifth installment in the MetroNews countdown of the 10 Most Pivotal Mountaineers for the 2015 football season. These aren’t necessarily West Virginia’s “best” 10, or the ones appearing on those bloated preseason watch lists. But they’re the players whose production will hold answers to the biggest preseason questions.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s offensive line isn’t in complete turnover mode, but the departures of senior guards Mark Glowinski and Quinton Spain left huge holes in the middle.

Enter Kyle Bosch, the Michigan transfer who was granted immediate eligibility after arriving this spring. A former four-star recruit, he represents one of the highest-rated offensive linemen ever to play at West Virginia, and Bosch could jump into the lineup right away provided he’s comfortable and confident with his new surroundings.

Junior Tony Matteo ended spring as the starter at right guard, though at that time WVU had not received confirmation of Bosch’s transfer waiver from the NCAA. We’ll be watching during the early days of camp to learn if Bosch takes first-team reps or if it’s Matteo’s job to lose.

It might seem like a reach to label a newcomer so pivotal, but Bosch’s addition could represent a talent upgrade with West Virginia’s line employing three starters at new positions.

Previous videos in the countdown:
