Tevin Christopher Williams, 21, and his juvenile passenger were parked in the West Main Street Go Mart lot at approximately 3 a.m. Friday when approached by an officer on a suspicion vehicle call, according to the criminal complaint.

Williams initially acted as if he going to roll down his window, but instead pulled out of the parking lot, followed by three officers.

The Chevy Equinox reached speeds up to 70 mph on city streets while running red lights and passing other vehicles, eventually reaching a dead end on Grant Street.

In an attempt to escape, Williams backed his vehicle into one of the cruisers, sending it downhill. A second cruiser attempted to stop its momentum by pulling up behind it. The first cruiser eventually hit a tree as the officer inside pulled the juvenile male from the vehicle as another officer detained Williams.

Without the driver, the Equinox rolled into a the second cruiser.

The officer that was backed into was treated and released from Uni ted Hospital Center.

Williams attempted to give false information about his identity before police were able to determine who he was and that the vehicle was stolen from Charleston, according to the complaint.

He is charged with Fleeing with Reckless Indifference and Receiving/Transferring Stolen Property and is being held in North Central Regional Jail with bond set at $35,000.

The juvenile was with police earlier Friday while they decided what to do with him.
