BIRCH RIVER, W.Va. — The state Division of Highways reopened state Route 82, Birch River Road, in Nicholas County Friday afternoon following a massive rock slide that occurred during flash flooding Monday.
Crews removed approximately 5,000 tons of rock and and stabilized the hillside. The slide was 2.6 miles east of Birch River.
The highway is heavily used for traffic headed to Webster Springs and as a shortcut to places like Snowshoe Resort.
