GREEN SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — An alcohol-fueled bloody fight ended with a shooting death Sunday night, police said.
Mark Shane Adkins, 46, is charged with killing his brother Choya Gene Adkins, 40, on family property on Duncan’s Branch Road.
The two were drinking and fighting, Summers County Sheriff Garry Wheeler told MetroNews.
“Mark (Adkins) got beat up pretty bad and as it played out he went and got a shotgun and shot him (Choya Adkins) one time with a 12-gauge shotgun,” the sheriff said.
Choya Adkins suffered a fatal wound to his chest. His body was on the ground when a deputy arrived on the scene.
Neighbors told police disagreements between the brothers weren’t uncommon. Family members were around the scene when Sunday’s deadly fight took place, Wheeler said.
“We’re dealing with family members of two brothers and one of them has killed the other,” he said. “It’s just tough. The mom is there and it’s really hard on her because she knows basically what happened,” he said.
Mark Adkins is in the Southern Regional Jail without bail. His brother’s body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.
