Deputies involved in fatal shooting back to work; administrative review complete

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies involved in a fatal shooting are back to work.

The administrative investigation into the incident is complete according to Monongalia County Sheriff Al Kisner.

Initial reports indicated officers were called to Harner Run Road/Finch Road following a report of a woman brandishing a knife.

Officers shot into the car killing Christie L. Cathers, 45, of Morgantown, after she reportedly tried to run them over before leading them on a chase.

An administrative review determines if a deputy violated Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office policies or procedures.

The review determined the two deputies did not violate any policy or procedure in the June 5 shooting.

The deputies, who have been the target of threats on social media, returned to work July 26.

Because of the threats, Sheriff Kisner noted the names of the deputies will not be released and no other information is being released at this time.

An administrative review is not a criminal investigation.
